CHAPTER NINE
ASH-LEIGH
I paced the floor of my old bedroom at my motherâs house. My palms were sweaty, and I kept having to dry them off on the short denim dress I wore. I wanted to cry, scream, run, and not to mention I had a bad case of the bubble guts. I swore I was about to shit on myself.
âGirl, you making me fucking dizzy. Sit the fuck down somewhere⦠damn,â Zaria fussed at me. She was seated on my bed, helping me pack some of my stuff because Denver would be there at any minute.
âZaria, I donât think I can do this. Maybe I should go to the police.â I stopped my pacing and stood directly in front of her.
Zaria made a face at me as if that was the dumbest shit sheâd ever heard.
âBitch, and tell them what? That your son robbed one of the most expensive jewelry stores in Miami for a watch worth over 400k. Please make that call while Iâm here, so I can witness how it goes down. Witcho dumb ass.â She picked her phone up and handed it to me.
I made a sound of frustration before I threw myself on the bed next to her, my hands covering my face.
âI cannot believe this is my life right about now. Kairoâs my son and all, but I swear to God I could whoop that lilâ niggaâs ass.â I groaned and rubbed my face irritably.
âAsh, what did you tell Kyron? I mean, I know yâall broken up and all, but that man will eventually either wonder where the fuck you are, or no doubt he may very well hear it through the grapevine that you got married. And then what? That nigga put his hands on you the last time when he found out about Phillip.â
Zariaâs concerns were valid, and it was something I did think about. However, Kyron and I were officially done because I gave him back his engagement ring yesterday. I even did him a kindness by not revealing that I knew the diamond wasnât real. Needing to be sure that Denver wasnât bullshitting, I did have the ring appraised.
The fucking embarrassment when I was told that the diamond was indeed fake had me re-thinking everything about my life. Once I gave him his ring back, I told him that my sister wasnât well, and I had to go stay with her for a while, so I could help out with my niece and nephews for a bit. Kyron was such a fucking loser. He had the all the nerve to ask me if I was taking Kairo with me because he couldnât miss work.
I wanted to deck him in his fucking throat for being such a fucked-up father to his only son. Until I sorted all this marriage shit out, Kairo would be in the care of my mother, but on weekends, I needed him to be with me.
âItâs handled. I know his dumb ass still thinks Iâm just blowing hot air, and Iâll be back in his arms and moving back home with him soon.
